CERNET BGP VIEW Global Internet

For the better observation on the performance of the CERNET BGP routing system, not only the IPv4 routing, but also the 6bone routing, we have been carrying out this on-line BGP routing table minitoring project since April, 2001. The hourly passive measurement on the BGP routing table can reflect some respects of the performance and general behavior of the global routing systems, such as the growth trends, the topology changes of the Internet. The data and charts on this website is to provide the administrators and researchers a better view of the Internet and its routing system.

Measurement Architecure

The architecture of the measurement infrastructure is shown in the right figure. A listening BGP router is peering with the backbone routers belonging to AS4538 and AS4789, and an analyzer query the BGP router, analyzing and storing the routing table and route update. The analyzed results are published on this website. AS4538 is the backbone network of CERNET. AS4789 is the transit AS between CERNET and other ISPs belonging to China.

• 2001/5/22 10:00 began to collect the China IPv4 BGP routing table from AS4789
• 2001/6/29 12:00 began to collect the global IPv4 BGP routing table from AS4538
• 2001/11 a new version of CERNET BGP VIEW was published
• 2002/10 the current version of CERNET BGP VIEW was published
• 2002/11 the real time analysis on update dynamics was published
• 2003/6/3 disconnected with AS4789
• 2003/6/6 peering with 202.112.60.251
• 2004/3/20 new analysis on CERNET BGP routing table was published.
• 2004/6/12 the web site was moved to a new server.
